Pokhara is Nepal's best base for mountain biking, but the trails that make it special are unmarked village and forest paths that are hard to find on your own. That is why we run guided mountain bike day tours here every day, led by local expert riders who know every trail, junction and viewpoint.
Each morning we head out from our shop in Lakeside with a small group, quality bikes and gear included, and a route matched to your level, from easy family rides to technical singletrack. Our guides handle the bikes, the shuttles, the safe lines and all the logistics, so you just ride. This page covers why a guide is worth it, how our daily departures work, the rides you can choose, and the package options.

Why Ride Guided?
In Pokhara, a guide is not a luxury; it is what unlocks the real riding. Here's what you get:
Hidden trails, not just the obvious ones. Pokhara's best riding is on unmarked singletrack through forests, villages and terraces. Maps cover only a fraction of it. A guide takes you to trails like Queen's Forest, Sarangkot descents and local village singletrack.
Safer riding on technical terrain. Your guide explains difficult sections, chooses the safest lines on steep and loose descents, and sets a pace that suits your group.
Logistics taken care of. Bikes, helmets, water, snacks, shuttles, mechanical support, and first aid are all arranged. Every guide is also a trained bike mechanic for trailside repairs.
A ride matched to your ability. Routes are tailored to your fitness and skill. Beginners get coaching on braking, shifting and bike handling, while experienced riders get more challenging trails.
Local knowledge and culture. Our guides share the stories behind the villages, farms, temples and viewpoints you pass along the way.
Support when it matters. If you have a crash or mechanical issue, your guide provides first aid, speaks the local language and can quickly arrange help.
Your money stays local. Every booking supports local guides, mechanics and drivers, and keeps tourism spending here in Pokhara.
Guided vs Self-Riding: The Honest Comparison
Can you ride Pokhara without a guide? Yes, for the easy stuff. Here is the honest picture, so you can choose what fits.
Self-guided or renting suits you if you already know Pokhara or have a local contact, you are a confident navigator happy on the flat lakeside loop and the dirt roads, you are on a tight budget, and freedom matters to you more than trail access.
A guide is the better call if it is your first time in Nepal, you want the real singletrack and not just the lake road, you are a beginner or intermediate, you are travelling solo, you are short on time, you are riding in the monsoon, or you would rather not deal with a mechanical or a language barrier out in the hills.
The honest Pokhara reality: the easy lakeside and dirt-road riding is genuinely doable on your own, so rent a bike and explore if that is your day. But the memorable trails are unmarked and effectively invisible without local knowledge, getting shuttled up climbs like Sarangkot is a logistics puzzle, and anything going wrong in a Nepali-speaking village is harder alone. The simple rule: rent and explore for a casual lake loop, and book a guide the day you want the real Pokhara mountain biking.
Want to ride on your own? You can rent a quality mountain bike or e-bike from us and explore at your own pace. Want a private ride, a custom route, or a fixed-departure or overnight trip? Just contact our team and we will set it up for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a guide to mountain bike in Pokhara, or can I ride on my own?
You can ride the easy lakeside and dirt-road routes on your own with a rental bike. But the best trails are unmarked singletrack that is very hard to find and follow alone, and reaching some trailheads needs a shuttle. For the real Pokhara riding, and for safety and support, a guide is well worth it.
Is a guided mountain bike tour actually worth it?
Yes, for most visitors. You get onto trails you could not find alone, safe lines on the technical sections, all the logistics and mechanical support handled, and local knowledge of the villages and mountains. You spend your time riding instead of navigating and planning.
Do I need to be experienced? Are the tours good for beginners?
No experience needed for the easy rides. The Sweet Pame Valley tour is made for complete beginners and families. The moderate and advanced rides need more fitness and off-road confidence, and your guide sets the pace to your group and coaches you where needed.
Can I join a guided day tour alone?
Yes. We welcome solo riders and pair individuals into small, friendly groups, so you get the small-group price and good company.
How big are the groups, and can I book a private tour?
Groups are small, usually 2 to 6 riders. If you would like a private guided ride for yourself or your own group, just ask and we will arrange it.
Do you run departures every day? Do I need to book ahead?
We run guided day tours daily in season. You can often join at short notice, but spaces are limited (small groups), so booking a day or two ahead is safest, especially in the busy autumn and spring months.
What is included in a guided day tour?
Every ride includes a professional local guide, a quality bike and helmet, purified water and trail snacks, mechanical support and basic first aid. Standard and Premium packages add extras like lunch, hotel transfers and better or electric bikes.
Do the guides speak English, and are the bikes any good?
Yes. Our guides are English-speaking local riders, and our bikes are quality, workshop-serviced machines (with full-suspension and e-MTB options on the higher packages).
What should I bring and wear?
Comfortable riding clothes, sturdy closed shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a small backpack. We provide the bike, helmet, water and snacks.
What happens if my bike breaks or I get injured?
Your guide is a trained bike mechanic and carries tools, spares and a first-aid kit, and knows the area and the language, so a mechanical or a minor injury is handled quickly. For anything serious, we have emergency plans and, on remote routes, evacuation support.
When is the best time to ride, and can I ride in the monsoon?
Autumn (roughly October to November) is the prime season, with clear skies and dry trails, and spring (March to May) is the second window. We ride through the monsoon (June to August) only on the safer routes, because the trails and forest descents get slippery, this is exactly when a local guide matters most.
