The Kristi Village tour is a moderate, one-day mountain bike ride from Pokhara, and it is a favorite among the area's own riders. Kristi is a quiet hill village about 5 km southeast of the lake, at an elevation of around 1,144 m, set among orange orchards and terraced farms. From the ridge above it you get a full view of the Annapurna skyline, so this ride trades the tourist trail for real countryside and big mountains.
The day starts with a pickup from your Pokhara hotel or at Nepal MTB Adventures Shop. You climb out of the valley on quiet rural roads and dirt tracks, past traditional villages and terraced fields, and up through the orange groves to the Kristi Ridge. From the ridge-top viewpoint, the big peaks line up across the horizon: Annapurna I (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), and the sharp spire of Machhapuchhre, the Fishtail (6,993 m), with Begnas and Phewa Lakes shining below them.
After a stop at a peaceful forest meditation retreat and a local fish lunch in the village, you turn the bike downhill and ride flowing singletrack and off-road trails back to Pokhara, arriving by about 4 PM. It is one of the valley's most scenic day rides, genuinely local, and hard to beat on a clear day.
Quick Details
Field | Details |
Highest point | Kristi Ridge (approx. 1,144 m) |
Total tour time | Full day (about 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) |
Terrain & surface | Rural roads, dirt tracks, and singletrack trails |
Bike provided | Hardtail mountain bike and premium Trek and Scott dual suspension bikes (E-MTB upgrade available for +$85) |
Mountain views | Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), plus Begnas and Phewa lakes |
Best season | October–November and March–May (orange season: October–January; peak harvest in December) |
This route is a moderate cross-country ride: one sustained climb, then a long, fun descent.
The climb. From the trailhead, you climb steadily on rural roads and dirt tracks through the orange orchards to Kristi Ridge (about 1,144 m). It is the main effort of the day, a net rise of roughly 340 m from the valley plus some rolling sections, and you take it at your own pace.
The top. At the ridge you reach the Skyline Trail viewpoint, the high point of the ride, with the full Annapurna panorama and the lakes below.
The descent. From there it is mostly downhill: flowing singletrack and dirt roads, with a few rougher, rugged sections, carrying you back through forest and small settlements to Pokhara. It is a lively, rewarding descent for a confident intermediate rider, not a steep or technical enduro run; we have an easy and flowy downhill option as well.
The full Annapurna panorama from the ridge: Annapurna I (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu (8,163 m) and Fishtail / Machhapuchhre (6,993 m)
Begnas and Phewa lakes, the Seti River and Furse Khola down in the valley
Pokhara's famous orange orchards, heavy with fruit in winter
Terraced farms and quiet traditional hill villages
A peaceful forest meditation retreat in the hills
A local lunch in the village with fresh lake fish, a Pokhara specialty
This tour is a moderate ride, not a beginner one, because of the climb to the ridge. It is a great fit if you are:
An intermediate rider with a moderate level of fitness who is happy with one real climb
A keen rider who wants an authentic local route, away from the busy tourist trails
Chasing the big Annapurna views and the photos from the ridge
Visiting in the winter months and want to ride through the orange orchards
Short on time in Pokhara after a trek and looking for a proper active day out
A small group or corporate group after a real, hands-on day
If the climb sounds like too much, the E-MTB upgrade does most of the work for you, and your guide can shorten the route.
Not sure which Pokhara ride to pick? Here is the honest difference:
vs Sarangkot: Sarangkot is the classic sunrise-viewpoint ride, but it uses more road and jeep track and draws bigger crowds. Kristi trades the postcard sunrise for a quieter panorama, some village track and forest singletrack, and the orchards.
vs the Fewa Lake and Pame Valley rides: those are flatter, easier, and shorter, which makes them better for beginners and families. Kristi has one real climb and earns its views.
vs Begnas: Begnas is longer, with more forest and birdlife. Kristi is the orchard-and-Annapurna-panorama option
You can ride Kristi year-round, but the clearest mountain views are in autumn (October and November) and spring (March to May). Winter has a special draw: the orange orchards are heavy with fruit from October into January, peaking around December, so a winter ride often means fresh oranges along the way and clear, dry riding weather. We avoid the June to September monsoon, when the dirt turns slippery, and clouds hide the peaks.
The route has one real climb and a longer descent, on a mix of surfaces. It is moderate riding, not steep, technical downhill.
Surface | Approx. | What it's like |
Quiet rural and paved roads | ~40% | Country roads leading out of the valley and through local villages. |
Dirt tracks (the climb) | ~35% | A steady uphill ride to Kristi Ridge through orange orchards and farmland. |
Singletrack and off-road trails (the descent) | ~25% | Flowing singletrack and off-road trails with fun descents back toward the valley. |
The day starts with a pickup from your Pokhara hotel at around 8 AM. You meet your guide, get a safety briefing, and are fitted to your bike and helmet before you transfer to the trailhead. From there, you will have a guided ride at your own pace, including the climb to the ridge, the viewpoint, a stop at the forest retreat, and lunch in the village, followed by the descent. You are back at your hotel by about 4 PM.
You ride a premium, well-maintained hardtail mountain bike, with a helmet and gloves included. Because the ride has one real climb, the E-MTB upgrade (an extra $85) is worth considering if you do not ride often or want to enjoy the orchards without the effort. It does most of the climbing for you, so strong riders will not need it.
Comfortable cycling clothes and closed shoes
A light layer for the ridge
Sunglasses and sunscreen
A refillable water bottle
A small backpack for personal items
A camera (the ridge views are worth it)
Every Kristi ride is fully guided and supported, so you can focus on the ride.
Experienced local guide. Safety briefing and bike fitting before the ride.
Helmet and gloves included. The bike is checked and adjusted to your size.
Mechanical & vehicle support. Trailside repairs and a backup vehicle are available.
Ride at your own pace. Guides adjust the pace and route to suit the group.
E-MTB upgrade available. Makes the climb easier for less-fit riders.
Fun, moderate descent. Flowing singletrack for intermediate riders, not extreme downhill.
Safe rural road riding. Guides manage traffic and livestock awareness.
Small groups & first aid. Personal guiding with a first-aid kit on every tour.
Best riding conditions. Tours run in the dry season for safer trails and clear mountain views.
This ride passes through working farms and small villages, so we ride with respect. We slow down for people and livestock on the tracks, keep off planted fields, ask before taking photos of people, and greet locals with a "Namaste." Small courtesies like these keep the trails welcoming for the riders and villages that come after us.

Brilliant few hours riding the Kristi village MTB route. Owner very friendly and helpful, easy to book and organise. Great bikes, well maintained. Guide was fab too. Would recommend :)
A moderate level of fitness is enough. The main effort is the climb up to Kristi Ridge, which you take at your own pace. If you would like it easier, the E-MTB upgrade does most of the climbing for you, and your guide can shorten the route.
