Pro Tips For Enduro Riders
From Jagan Biswakarma and the Lead Guiding Team
1. Heavy Casing Tyres Are Non-Negotiable
Leave your lightweight trail tyres at home. The sharp, shifting alpine shale in Lower Mustang will slice thin sidewalls on day one. We highly recommend running heavy-duty Maxxis DoubleDown/DH Casing or Schwalbe SuperGravity setups with fresh tubeless sealant.
2. Brake System Preparation
You will be dropping down continuous 2,000-metre descents. You need 4-piston brakes paired with fresh sintered metallic pads and a minimum 180 to 200 mm rotor size, both in the front and in the rear. Organic brake pads will glaze over, heat up, and experience severe fade within the first 10 minutes of the Aalu Bari plunge.
3. E-MTB Battery Logistics
Commercial domestic flights in Nepal have strict safety rules regarding large lithium-ion batteries; you cannot fly with them to Jomsom. We handle the logistics for you. Our ground support vehicles drive your E-MTB batteries overland ahead of time, ensuring they are fully charged and waiting for you at the mountain airfield when you land.
4. Pack Spare Derailleur Hangers
The backcountry singletracks we ride are raw and surrounded by loose rock features. Pack at least two spare derailleur hangers that are specific to your bike frame model. Our mechanic carries a comprehensive toolkit, but finding proprietary frame parts deep in the Himalayas is impossible.
Accommodation & Food Logistics
Your comfort is an important part of the overall experience. Throughout the expedition, we carefully select accommodation that reflects the character of each destination while providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere:
Boutique or 4/5-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara, based on the package you choose.
Comfortable, family-run mountain lodges in Mustang and the Annapurna region.
Clean twin-share rooms with private bathrooms where available, chosen for location and friendly service rather than luxury alone.
Food & Nutrition
Mountain biking demands outstanding nutrition, and Nepal offers an excellent variety of fresh, wholesome food. Meals throughout the expedition include traditional Nepali cuisine, fresh seasonal vegetables, Tibetan-inspired dishes, rice, noodles, curries, homemade bread, eggs, and local apple products in Marpha.
With advance notice, we can easily cater to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and most dietary requirements.
Recommended Bike Setup
To enjoy the expedition to its fullest, we recommend the following build:
Modern Enduro or All-Mountain dual-suspension bike
150–180 mm front travel and rear suspension
Tubeless tyres with reinforced casings (DH/DoubleDown or equivalent)
4-piston hydraulic brakes with 180 mm to 203 mm rotors (203 mm highly preferred)
Dropper seatpost and a wide-range drivetrain (10–52T or equivalent)
Premium Enduro and E-Enduro bike rentals are available through Nepal MTB Adventures.
