In my 20+ years of guiding in Nepal, I can confidently say this region is one of the most affordable and rewarding destinations in the world for electric mountain biking.
I still remember my first ride through the Annapurna foothills two decades ago. The trails were rough, and the climbs were brutal, but the views—snow peaks rising above ancient villages—made every drop of sweat worth it. Today, electric mountain bikes have changed everything.
Now, when I guide clients through those same trails, I watch them glide up climbs that once left even experienced riders exhausted. Instead of gasping for breath, they're laughing, taking photos, and soaking in the Himalayan scenery.
Riding an E-MTB (electric mountain bike) in Nepal isn't just cycling—it's experiencing the Himalayas in an entirely new way.
You ride through:
✅ Ancient mountain villages where life moves at a different pace
✅ Forest trails and river valleys teeming with wildlife
✅ High-altitude landscapes beneath 8,000-meter peaks
Whether you're a beginner to mountain biking or an experienced rider, E-MTB riding in Nepal makes high-altitude adventure accessible, fun, and unforgettable. And as someone who's been leading these rides since before e-bikes existed, I can tell you—the experience is better than ever.
It’s a high-performance mountain bike equipped with a pedal-assist motor that helps you ride more efficiently. You still pedal—the motor just gives you a boost when you need it.
✅ Rechargeable battery (our fleet uses 500Wh– 625Wh–750Wh batteries)
✅ Multiple power riding modes (Eco, Trail, Turbo)
✅ Full suspension and off-road components
✅ Beginners who want to explore mountains without years of training
✅ Experienced riders who want longer, less tiring days
✅ Travelers looking for a unique Himalayan adventure
In March 2025, my team and I at Nepal MTB Adventures— "as the local DMC for Art of Bicycle."—guided a group of nine 70-year-old riders from New Zealand. We covered back-country roads from Kathmandu to Pokhara with daily elevation gains of 1,000 to 1,500 meters. Thanks to the E-MTBs, the group conquered every climb without the usual struggle.
I’ve ridden in the Alps, Germany, and across Europe—as well as Indonesia, Bali, and Bhutan. But Nepal offers something they don't: authentic, raw high-altitude value.
✅ Home to 8 of the world's 14 highest mountains
✅ Diverse terrain in one small country: jungle, alpine forest, high desert and the Himalayas
✅ Remote villages with centuries-old culture
✅ Long, steady climbs that are perfectly suited for e-bike assistance
Destination | Experience |
Europe | Polished, crowded, expensive |
USA | Scenic but less cultural depth |
Nepal | Raw, authentic, affordable |
When you ride in Nepal, you're not just passing through scenery. You're passing through living culture—Buddhist prayer flags, terraced farms, and tea houses where you're welcomed like family.
Electric mountain biking is one of the fastest-growing segments in global tourism.
Global e-bike market is projected to exceed $140 billion by 2033
E-MTB segment growing rapidly with double-digit annual growth
Driven by eco-tourism and accessible adventure travel
1. More Accessible Adventure. You don’t need elite fitness anymore.
2. Experience-Focused Travel. People want to enjoy the journey—not just survive it.
3. Sustainable Travel Shift. E-bikes offer a low-impact way to explore nature.
Destination | Daily Rental / Day | Guided Tours / Day | Experience |
| Switzerland / Alps | $150–$250 | $250–$500 | Premium, crowded |
| USA | $120–$200 | $200–$400 | Scenic, expensive |
| New Zealand | $100–$180 | $220–$450 | Developed trails |
| Nepal | $90–$120 | $150–$380 | $150–$380 |
Nepal delivers world-class riding at a fraction of the cost.
I operate primarily from Pokhara, the adventure capital of Nepal, but we also coordinate specialized pickups and services in Kathmandu.
You can rent premium, Bosch-powered E-MTBs directly from our service centers in Lakeside, Pokhara and Kathmandu. At Nepal MTB Adventures, we provide the highest standard of E-MTB technology in the Himalayas. Whether you are looking for a high-performance Trek Rail 5 for the Annapurna Circuit or a comfortable Bergamont E-Trail for the Pokhara foothills, our hubs are equipped to get you on the trail safely.
Find us here: Nepal MTB Adventures on Google Maps
Most of our E-MTB rentals and tours start here in Pokhara.
For those with less time, Kathmandu offers:

Whether guided or rental, preparation is essential for a successful adventure in the Himalayas. Over the years, I’ve built systems to ensure reliability even in remote regions.
✅ Regularly serviced bikes and battery checks
✅ Access to charging points on planned routes (guided tours)
✅ Trail advice and route recommendations
✅ Emergency support planning (guided tours)
⬤ A refundable security deposit is required for all rentals.
⬤ $500–$800 depending on the bike model
⬤ Paid via credit card or cash
⬤ Fully refundable upon safe return of the bike
Most popular riding regions in the Himalayas of Nepal require permits, especially outside Pokhara and Kathmandu.
⬤ Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): approx. $30
⬤ Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit: approx. $500 (10 days)
For guided tours, I arrange all permits in advance so you don’t have to worry.
Travel insurance is mandatory for all guided tours—and I strongly recommend it even for rentals.
Your policy should cover:
⬤ High-altitude activities
⬤ Mountain biking / adventure sports
⬤ Emergency evacuation
Note: In remote Himalayan regions, proper insurance isn’t optional—it’s essential.
In my experience, understanding these additional costs in advance helps you avoid unwanted surprises and focus on what really matters — enjoying the ride through the stunning Himalayas of Nepal.
One question I get from almost every client: “What happens if the battery dies?” Here's the honest answer.
✨ 40–70 km per charge
✨ 1,000–1,800 meters of climbing
✨ Depends on terrain, rider weight, and assist mode
This is where experience matters. I've spent years mapping tea houses and lodges that offer reliable charging.
✅ Charging available in most tea houses and lodges
✅ Overnight charging is standard.
✅ On multi-day tours, I plan routes so you never worry about range.
Use Eco mode on long climbs and save Turbo for the steep sections. Most of my clients finish the day with battery to spare.
I offer both, but I'm always honest about the trade-offs.
Here are the reasons why I recommend guided tours:
I know which tea houses have the best food, which trails are in excellent condition, and where to stop for the best views.
If something breaks, I have tools and spares. If someone gets hurt, I know the evacuation routes.
Riding with a local guide opens doors. You'll be invited into homes, offered tea, and shown places tourists rarely see.
✅ Experienced riders with navigation skills
✅ Those who want complete flexibility
✅ Riders on a tight budget
✅ Offline maps (trails are not always well-marked)
✅ Basic mechanical skills
✅ Comfort with uncertainty
For 90% of my clients, I recommend guided tours. The peace of mind and cultural depth are worth the extra cost.
Here are the tours I've been guiding for years. Each one is different, and each one is spectacular.
This is where I start most beginners and even seasoned riders to get used to the bike and the new environment.
⬤ Duration: 3–4 hours
⬤ Difficulty: Easy

⬤ Duration: 7–12 days

⬤ Perfect for: Adventurers seeking remoteness and culture
A shorter alternative to Upper Mustang.

⬤ Perfect for: Those with limited time who want a Himalayan e-bike experience
I've been leading rides in every season. Here's what you need to know.
Season | Months | Conditions | Our Take |
| Spring | March–May | Warm, clear skies, rhododendron blooms | Excellent— busiest season |
| Summer/Monsoon | June–August | Rain, muddy trails, limited visibility | Not recommended for most riders |
| Autumn | October–December | Crystal clear, stable weather | The best—perfect conditions |
| Winter | December–February | Cold at altitude, snow on high passes | Possible in lower elevations |
Best seasons: Spring and Autumn. I recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance during these periods.
Here's my packing list based on 20 years of guiding.

"I was nervous about riding in the Himalayas, but Jagan made everything easy. The Trek Rail 5 handled everything, and his knowledge of the trails meant we never worried about battery range or navigation. One of the best travel experiences of my life."
— Sarah T., Canada (Annapurna Circuit, 16 days)
"Nepal MTB Adventures is truly authentic. Jagan personally led our group through Upper Mustang, and his relationships with local tea houses made the trip seamless. The bikes were in perfect condition, and the scenery was beyond anything I've seen.
— Mark L., Australia (Upper Mustang Expedition, 15 days)
Yes. In my opinion, Nepal is one of the best destinations in the world due to the combination of terrain, scenery, and cultural depth.
Absolutely. I've guided people who had never ridden a mountain bike before. The electric assist makes learning easier, and I always start with gentle terrain.
Typically 40–70 km or 1,000–1,800 meters of climbing, depending on terrain and assist mode.
Yes, for most areas outside Kathmandu and Pokhara. I handle permit arrangements for guided tours.
Yes, it is safe to ride in Nepal if you have a professional guide and proper planning. I've been doing this job for 20 years and prioritize safety above everything else.
On guided tours, I carry tools and spares. We have backup plans and support vehicles in the unlikely event of a serious problem.
I was born here. My family is from the hills. This isn't just a business for me—it's my home.

Twenty years ago, when I started guiding, getting to the best trails meant brutal climbs that left riders exhausted before they reached the views.
Electric mountain biking has changed that. Now, the adventure is accessible to everyone—from first-timers to seasoned riders.
And Nepal, with its mountains, culture, and trails, is at the heart of that transformation. I hope to ride with you soon!
