Trip Introduction

Mountain biking and hiking are inter-related disciplines which offer different experiences out in nature on the same trails. Sometimes it is more fun to combine a hike and bike trip. So PMTB Trekking is here to make the trip either combined or separate for those who like to include other outdoor activities along with mountain biking and hiking around the Annapurna area.

Thorong- La Pass (5416m) has been a dream for trekkers around the world. It is considered one of the most popular trekking routes on the planet. Since it has access by jeep trails, it became accessible to ride mountain bikes at high altitude. Our Hike and Bike Annapurna is the best combination and top choice among hike and bike lovers who do not want to push their bike over the high pass. Hiking on the Manag section along the Marshyangi River up to Muktinath via Thorong-la Pass and the rewarding mountain biking after Muktinath through the most popular Mustang region is a unique experience.

This '2 in 1 trip' is the best opportunity to experiment with Himalayan riding, along with a hike and cultural experience in this unique and virgin part of the world. Each and every part of the route will have jaw-dropping scenery and authentic exposure to traditional rural life in Nepal. We will hike and ride from the deepest gorge to one of the highest passes in the world! Along the way, you will see beautiful villages, monasteries, temples, rivers, waterfalls, Himalayan desert, sub-tropical and alpine forest. It is the best combination for a ‘once in a life time experience’.

Proposed Trip Itinerary

Remember, this is only an outline/sample itinerary. We understand that every rider is different so we design each trip to cater to the specific needs of the group/individual. Easy, Moderate, Advanced, faster, chilled, or cruising…. Whatever style, it’s your holiday/vacation/trip not a boot camp! We are here to listen, consult and understand your needs to make your trip perfect. We believe it’s your day - you decide!

Day 01: Welcome to Nepal! Greeting at Kathmandu airport by our colleagues, then transfer to a guest house. After check in, we will be sightseeing based on available time.
Day 02: Transfer to Pokhara by Jeep/van

We will be heading to Pokhara leaving crazy Kathmandu behind and move peacefully toward the land of beauty and adventure where we are located. We will drive through subtropical hills, terraces, river beds and wonderful villages. We will have lunch along the way and stop to enjoy the view and take snapshots.

Day 03: Warm-up bike ride/hike around Pokhara.

After the long drive yesterday, today is the day to move our body and relax our mind. There is a choice to either ride a bike or hike to Sarangkot or Pumdi Village, where there will be the option to ride and hike around.

Day 04 : Drive in private jeep to Beshisahar to Nadi, then hike to Syange (1100m)

Today is our big day to start the adventure. We will wake up early in the morning and get ready for the trip. We will drive by Jeep to Besisahar, have lunch, then drive to Nadi, and hike to Syange.
Distance:15 km aprox.

Day 05: Syange to Dharapani (1860m)

On this great hike we cross over suspension bridges, and through changes in landscape and scenery. We will feel that our gradient is getting higher than yesterday as we are heading to the Himalayan region. The Marshyangi River Valley will be narrower as we ascend. We can choose to either trek on people walking trails or Jeep trails. We will be staying in a local guest house.
Hiking distance: 16 Km aprox.

Day 06: Dharapani to Chame (2670m)

We will start the day after breakfast and again battle with up hills through the Marshyangi River Valley. We will walk through apple orchards, villages, and terraces on mule track and jeep trails in the pine forest. After a steep uphill at Danakyu the trails will be a bit smoother and we will reach the headquarters of Manag District. At Chame, we will be rewarded by views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Here in Chame, we will have internet access to be in touch with our near and dear ones. Staying in a local guest house.
Distance:17.5 Km approx.

Day 07: Chame to Pisang (3200m)

Leaving Chame behind and following pine forest trails uphill, there will be spectacular views all around. We will be smiling not caring, on the up hills until Dhikurpokhari. After this village, the trails will be a bit smoother. The view will be even better as we are climbing. We can feel and smell the fragrant Himalayan pine forest with stunning views unfolding all around us. It’s an amazing experience.
Distance:17 Km approx.

Day 08: Pisang to Manang (3540m)

Today is an easy day compared to the previous days challenging trails. Now it will be mostly flat along the river and we will feel the difference from the pine forest. We will have opportunity to see monasteries, paddies, villages and Humbde, one of the highest commercial airports in the world. On scenic trails, we will head to Moonjee, with joyful hiking up to Manang.
Distance: 19 Km

Day 09: Rest day in Manang

Today is our day to acclimatize to the altitude. Although it is a rest day, we will do a short hike up to 4000 meters to adapt to the high altitude we will face in next few days. There is also a short excursion around the area, staying active is highly recommended. We will also do some sightseeing to a Lake, Monastery and Choorten.

Day 10: Manang to Phedi (4450m)

After our recharge day in Manag, we head uphill on people walking trails where we will meet local people riding horses. The walking trail is narrow and steep in some sections. We will stop at Gunsang or continue to Yak Kharka. After Yak Kharka we will walk across bridges and after short up hills we will reach on the bottom of the Thorong-La Pass. At Phedi, we will spend the night.
Distance: 17 km

Day 11: Phedi to Muktinath (3800m) via Thorong-La (5416m)

Today is the biggest and most challenging day as we have to wake up early in the morning around 4 am and get ready to feel the altitude. Being ready with our gear, we will start our hard journey but we will take it easy. We always advise you to enjoy each and every step as you rarely step at this height in your life. The effect of the altitude can be relieved by the jaw dropping views from the Thorong-La Pass. Once we reach the top, we will enjoy the view, and then trek down to Muktinath.
Distance: 19 Km aprox

Day 12: Muktinath to Marpha

Today our hiking ends and riding starts! We will visit temples, monasteries and the eternal flame, and then start biking. We are very cool as we have already finished the most challenging parts of our hike! Now it’s time to enjoy the rides through Mustang Valley and smile at the almighty Himalayas. We have the option today either to choose one to the best single tracks in Mustang, the Lupra Valley or just follow easy Jeep trails with amazing views. We will ride on the skyline through temples, monasteries, prayer flags and the Kali Gandaki River Valley. We will be staying in the Apple capital.
Distance: 30 Km approx.

Day 13: Biking from Marpha to Tatopani (1130m)

Today, we are heading toward the low land from the thin air. Our lungs will get more air and you will feel better along with seeing different topography and geology than yesterday. We will ride through authentic Nepali foothill villages on some jeep and single trails. We will ride through Kali Gandaki River Valley, the deepest gorge in the world. We will end our ride today in a hot spring called Tatopani. We will have opportunity to treat our muscles and body to the healing water of the natural hot spring.
Distance: 44 Km aprox

Day 14: Biking from Tatopani to Beni to Sarangkot (1592m) (ride and jeep drive)

From Tatopani we will ride through Kali Gandaki river bed along the dirt road - we have no optional trails. We will roll through villages, temples and bushes. This will be our final ride in the Mustang region. Once we reach Beni our van will be waiting to transfer us to Sarangkot. We will stay in a local guest house with a superb view of the Annapurna Himalayan range.
Distance: 32 Km approx.

Day 15: Biking from Sarangkot to Pokhara Lakeside (800m)

Sarangkot offers one of the best sunrise views of three eight-thousand-meter mountains along with other peaks from a 360-degree view point. After breakfast, we will ride down to Pokhara Valley on our local trail and have lunch in Lakeside. We will chill out and relax in the afternoon.
Distance: 15 to 25 km.
End of the trip!!
